1-17.gif     To a beginner, learning foreign languages natuarlly like learning mother tongue will help students learn the target language well.  After all, learning is to learn how to learn.  I hope students can learn foreign language spontaneously and actively.  Moreover, I will offer them a relaxing environment to learn language, because I don’t want my students to be frustrated at the beginning of learning language.  Learning language should be pleasant and wonderful to communicate with more different people.  Therefore, students learn language happily and meaningfully is what I really desire.

Yap!I agree with your point. But somehow for some students, they find it difficult to learn English and they don’t think learning a foreign language is interesting. Especially in Taiwan, learning English is no more than to pass the exam. So, as we discussed in our previous session, how to make studnets have fun in learning and make progress in learning at the same time is crucial!

That’s right! If a teacher can stimulate students’ motivation, it’s a good beginning of learning language. But how to maintain their interests and thirst for knowledge is a challenge worthy of brainstorming.

In your words, you have mentioned the word “environment”,
I agree with you that it’s one of a key point of learning English.
But how to break the tradition learning environment,
it’s a key question before you bulid an English learning environment you want, right?

  4. clarelin Says:

Yes, it’s a key question indeed.
In my opinion, the environment of learning language should be built step by step. Students need time to adapt to new learning environment. If they feel comfortable in the atmosphere of classroom, it’s right time to give them more chances to use the foreign language, isn’t it?
As for the traditional learning environment, we still can get benefits from it, but why so many students hate it is also an annoying problem for teachers. Perhaps the problem is not the teaching but the exam. Do you think so?

It is true that if students become frustrated at the begining of a learning process, they will have no motivation toward learning anymore. Thus,a happy and relaxing enviroment is very important for learning.

    Hello, Milly! ^_^
I do believe you will be an amiable teacher someday. I’m happy to see many people have the same feeling with me. Perhaps, we had met the embarrassing situation in learning English before, so we don’t want students to learn English with a lot of pressure.

I agree with you so much. When I stay at a classroom with pleasant atmosphere, I will feel very comfortable and sometimes I find myself have better performance than the time when I lie in a stressful condition. Thus, I believe learning English in a very serious and stressful environment is not a good way for students. Surely, I expect myself to be a teacher who can bring my students a happy classroom to learn English.

As what you said, it seems that most people agree with the importance of ‘good’ environment. However, what kind of environment can qualify as a relaxing and comfortable learning situation? And, how does a teacher put it into practice?
